Paramedical Council of India, established in the year 2005, is a registered Organization under I.T. Act 1882 and I.R. Act 1908, with its central office located at Kolkata. The Council registers qualified paramedics or colleges autonomously without any Governmental or non-Governmental association.
There is no Act or Council to regulate the hiring or functioning of paramedics, whether in the city or country. There is no way of ascertaining the work record or conduct of a particular paramedic,” the official noted.
The Council will accredit operation theatre (OT) technicians, OT assistants, Physiotherapy Technician , laboratory technicians, laboratory assistants, X-Ray technicians, ECG technicians, darkroom assistants and Central Sterilisation Department assistants. All institutions will have to register with the Council that will issue certificates only after professionals have worked for fixed period.
The council has separate guidelines and regulations issued with the acceptance of all the active members of the governing body of the Council.
The Council registers qualified personnel and Colleges/ University for paramedical sciences for world-class training and future practice of the profession.
With the limited number of available trained paramedics, the Council aims to minimize the dearth with qualified and trained personnel and compensate the shortage.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES THE COUNCIL

1.To expose the benefit of paramedical science nation-wide.

2.To register candidates with deserving quality for fair and professional practice and maintain an All India Paramedical register of persons who hold registrations.

3.To issue ethical guidelines for the professional practice and lift-up the standard of quality practice.

4.To set-up grades of membership in the Council based on the duration of membership………

5.To expose the members of the Council with the recent scientific development in the paramedical sciences by holding periodical presentations and seminars, workshops, refresher courses, orientation courses, India-level meetings and lectures etc. and regular exposure by journals, publications discussions etc.

6.To expose the members with world-class technological advancement in the field of paramedical science and their operations.

7.To encourage the other Institutes and research labs all over India to work in collaboration and promote the field.

8.To receive donations, grants, gifts, and acquire, hold, manage and dispose any property movable or immovable including council and endowment properties.

9.To maintain the honor and dignity of the principles and protect interest of the Paramedical sciences by expressing views and checking the means that interferes with the policy matters and regulatory affairs of the Council.

10.To encourage research in the paramedical sciences by exposing the members with recent research development in premier research Institutes.

11.To encourage Central and State Govt. to establish Paramedical health centers, hospitals, provide donations, grants, for the promotion and upliftment of the field.

12.To affiliate other registered bodies that are subscribing with the policy of this Council.

13.To establish goodwill among Statutory Bodies, Boards, Councils, Associations, Universities for support for the fulfillment of the goal.

14.To organize public campaigns to spread awareness about diseases and common household health-care systems and encourage the NGOs to participate in such initiatives.

15.To promote co-operation and build relationship with the members of Paramedical fraternity by forming a unitary organization of paramedics.

16.To recognize an institution of higher learning and may withdraw recognition for the purpose of the Council's objectives.

17.To publish journals and papers for the mass awareness of several healthy hazards development in the field of Paramedical sciences and disseminate its benefits.

18.To set-up guidelines protecting the rights and privileges for the registered paramedics and their free practice and express strict views to any External policies affecting their practice in particular and public health in general.

19.To issue regulations, to be implemented by several branches all over India under the Council, for synchronized performances to achieve uniform quality in paramedical sciences.

20.To inspect/visit the branches nation-wide for maintaining a equal standard of education in paramedical sciences.

21. To establish different categories of members of PMCI

22. To maintain Registers of different categories of members of PMCI. However Life and Ordinary Members will have a common register.

23.To set and ensure ethical professional practices and promote high professional standards of independent practice of paramedics by the members of PMCI.

24.To convene conferences, seminars, workshops, camps to organize study circles, meetings, & lectures and to publish literature, journals, periodicals, newsletters etc. and such other means/ publications as PMCI may determine from time to time.

25.To organize and provide for continuing Paramedical education programs for its members.

26.To supplement and complement paramedical courses for the advancement of higher paramedical education independently or with the co-operation and collaboration of other Institutions to fulfill or further the aim and objects of PMCI.

27. To promote scientific research and technology in paramedical and related areas to enhance the status of the profession of paramedical.

28.To watch and advise Government Organizations and NGOs on policy matters affecting the development and practice of paramedical including advising and assisting the Government in the establishment of statutory council for regulating paramedical education and practice & registration of those practicing the profession of paramedical in the country.

29.To solicit, obtain or accept subscriptions, donations, grants, gifts, bequests of money and all kinds of property movable and immovable either unconditionally or any special terms and conditions or on council not being inconsistent with the objects hereinabove stated which PMCI may think fit.

30.To confer honour and award scholarships to paramedics in the interests of the profession and also grant or provide travel grants, fellowships or any other monetary assistance to professionals/ practicing paramedics as may be in the interests of the development of the profession.

31.To procure the advisory services of eminent persons either by remuneration in cash or kind or in honorary capacity.

32.To issue certificate of registration to Life Members and membership identification cards to Ordinary Members or to those who apply for registration as members.

33.To procure land/property for establishing office/academic purpose in different parts of country.
